We’re Hiring! Brand New Business Development Manager Role

Arisaig Community Trust (ACT) is run by a committed group of volunteers and board members whose aim is to manage and develop local assets for the long-term benefit of the community. These assets include the Land, Sea & Islands Centre, community housing, Bill’s Shed, the playpark and village parking.

We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to help make ACT genuinely sustainable in the long term in our first ever dedicated income generation and fundraising role.

Job Title: Business Development Manager
Organisation: Arisaig Community Trust (ACT)
Location: Home based
Salary: Starting salary up to £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Fixed-term, 3-year contract ending 30th March 2029. 37.5 hours per week
Start Date: 1 May 2026

About Arisaig Community Trust (ACT)

Arisaig Community Trust (ACT) is a community-led organisation dedicated to enhancing the social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of the area around Arisaig. The Board is supported by over 30 active volunteers all of whom are unpaid. ACT manages key community assets including the Land, Sea & Islands Centre (LSIC), village parking, Bill’s Shed, the playing field and playpark, while also progressing affordable housing and community development initiatives.

This post is funded through The Development Trust Association of Scotland (DTAS) to support a step change in ACT’s organisational capacity, financial sustainability, and long-term resilience.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager’s role is a pivotal role in strengthening ACT’s financial sustainability. The primary focus of the role is to increase income and enhance community engagement. The postholder will lead on developing and delivering income-generating activities, building partnerships, and supporting strategic planning to ensure ACT becomes a more resilient and self-sustaining organisation.

  • Increase income generation from Trading, Events, Donations and Philanthropic giving- with an aim to reduce grant dependency.
  • Increase visibility and engagement of the community through social media campaigns and newsletters. To help increase and support ACT membership and volunteer group.
  • Represent the organisation at networking events, conferences, and meetings to raise our profile and open new doors.
  • Identify, research, and pursue new funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, corporates, and statutory bodies. Building relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, and partner organisations.
  • Manage small projects with board support.
  • Meet key targets.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience in business development, income generation, and fundraising
  • Strong track record of delivering income growth or securing funding
  • Experience delivering multiple workstreams
  • Excellent communication, including Digital and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and use their initiative in a small organisation
  • Ability to manage budgets and targets

Desirable

  • Experience working in the community, charity, or social enterprise sector
  • Understanding of governance and working with Boards

Reporting & Relationships

  • Reports to: Chair of ACT
  • Works closely with: ACT Board and Operations Manager. On a project basis with volunteers, community stakeholders, and external partners.
