Arisaig’s public toilets were threatened with closure by Highland Council in March 2011, to the dismay of local residents. We stepped in to purchase and upgrade the building and now look after the running and maintenance of the facilities with the help of two part-time cleaners.
Thanks to Rotary Club funding and donations from users and the ACT, we were able to make the toilets more user-friendly for disabled visitors. A local plumber gave his services free of charge and volunteers decorated the interior. The Arisaig loos are very popular and rising visitor numbers means they are increasingly necessary to the village.
